Yesterday, BYD Group held a ceremony at its Shenshan plant to mark the rollout of its 9 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), the Yangwang U9. a high-performance all-electric supercar.
According to the official introduction, the 9 millionth NEV—Yangwang U9—features groundbreaking technology, ultimate performance, top-tier craftsmanship, and premium quality. It opens up a new experience for all-electric supercars and sets a new benchmark for extreme performance.
In terms of exterior design, the Yangwang U9 adopts the brand's "Gateway to Time and Space" design language, retaining the classic elements of a supercar while incorporating a futuristic touch. The closed-off front fascia features exaggerated "C"-shaped starlight headlights, inspired by outer space, which create an impressive lighting effect. The headlights are also adorned with fang-like split lights.
The body’s side profile is sleek and simple, with streamlined design reducing drag and adding to its sporty appeal. The lower window line exhibits an undulating design, while the midsection of the body incorporates numerous aerodynamic components. The doors feature an intelligent, electrically-operated butterfly design.
At the rear, in addition to the classic exaggerated supercar styling, the Yangwang U9 introduces a horizontally spanned dot-matrix LED taillight for a futuristic touch.
Technologically, the Yangwang U9 is equipped with a super body structure, which integrates three cutting-edge innovations: a super carbon cabin, the next-generation CTB (cell-to-body), and a hyper-hybrid structure. It is also the first in China to use carbon fiber as a true structural component. The lightweighting coefficient of this super body has set a new industry standard, reaching a mere 0.95.
As for the interior, the new car adopts a dual wrap-around cockpit with bucket seats made from extensive carbon fiber materials. It also comes with a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster. The center console features a large vertical touchscreen that integrates most of the commonly used apps, and the front passenger side includes a small independent display.
In terms of features, the new model is equipped with wireless phone charging, a 127-color ambient lighting system, and a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. It also comes with an intelligent driving assistance system, offering adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, remote parking, and other smart driving functions.
In terms of performance, the Yangwang U9 is built on the Yisifang platform, featuring a quad-motor layout paired with the Yunnian-X technology. The four motors generate a combined output of 960 kW, with a peak torque of 1.680 N·m and a maximum speed of 21.000 rpm. The car boasts over 1.300 horsepower, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds and from 0-400 km/h in 9.78 seconds.
In terms of power safety, the Yangwang U9 uses ultra-thin low iron-loss silicon steel sheets and high-temperature-resistant permanent magnets in its motors. This improves motor efficiency, reduces heat loss, and enhances the motor's thermal resistance, ensuring the safety and performance of the electric drive system.
Additionally, thanks to the 800V high-voltage platform and high-integration primary power source, the Yunnian-X system delivers a maximum power output of 36 kW, with a peak single-axle lift rate of up to 500 mm/s, capable of generating over one ton of lift force instantly.
As for suspension, the Yangwang U9 offers an adjustable range of up to 75 mm and can raise 50 mm in a flash, with an average single-axle lift rate of 375 mm/s. This allows the vehicle to maintain four-wheel traction on bumpy roads like curbs, improving control. On the track, the Yisifang platform independently distributes the optimal torque to each wheel, adjusting in real-time during cornering to maximize ground adhesion and improve cornering speed.
With BYD continuing to achieve high sales, the rollout of its 10 millionth NEV seems just around the corner. Enthusiasts can certainly look forward to it.
