Have you heard? Within 72 hours of its release, the Xiaomi SU7's order locking rate was only 35%-40%, while the cancellation rate soared to 40%.
So today, let's analyze whether the starting price of 215.900 yuan for the Xiaomi SU7 is truly appealing. What if I told you that the base model and the top model are essentially two different cars? Many of the features mentioned by Lei Jun at the launch are only available on the top model. Let's start with the advantages:
1. Attractive and highly popular, turning heads everywhere.
2. High level of intelligence, especially appealing to those who use Xiaomi phones and have a Mi Home ecosystem at home.
3. Thoughtfully includes a screw hole for a phone mount in the car.
4. Good chassis control.
However, the Xiaomi SU7's drawbacks are also very apparent:
1. Both the standard and PRO versions are built on a 400V architecture; only the top model has an 800V architecture.
2. No HUD (head-up display) available, not even as an option, only available on the top model.
3. The low and mid-range models cannot be equipped with soft-close doors, only the top model has them.
4. No seat massage available across the range, and the rear seat angle is not adjustable.
5. Very important: the entire vehicle warranty is only 5 years or 100.000 kilometers, with no lifetime warranty on the electric components. Moreover, the warranty follows the car, not the owner.
6. The in-car intelligent connectivity's data is only free for one year. It's unclear whether there will be charges after one year.
In my opinion, the Xiaomi SU7's target audience is very clear: young people with disposable income, for whom spending 200.000-300.000 yuan on a car does not affect their quality of life. The Xiaomi SU7 is not suitable for most people. It has limited space, making it unsuitable as a family car, especially when there are many spacious and cost-effective alternatives at this price range. From a rational consumer perspective, I would rather spend money on Xiaomi's second car. What do you think?
